About Our Training

Cross Training

Propulsion Performance is dedicated to developing strong well rounded athletes.   Our philosophy is simple, to make constant improvements you need to challenge your athletes.  We incorporate a great deal of proven cross training methods borrowed from other sporting disciplines like gymnastics, pilates, physiotherapy in order to ensure athletes don’t get bored with the typical monotony of lap swimming and we consider the long term development of the individual.

Workshops

We are planning a shoulder workshop in term 1 with one of Australia’s premier physiotherapist who specialises in shoulders. Since our sport is dominated by our shoulder function so we place a great emphasis on injury prevention and education of this complex joint

Underwater Video Analysis

When improving your times as a swimmer it comes down to two important thing:

1. developing your energy systems
2. performing a biomechanically sound stroke

We have a competitive advantage of being able to provide underwater video analysis as extra service to our squad members enabling our swimmers to see exactly what they are doing under the water.

Yearly Plan

Our training pool is open for swimming all year round therefore your swimming skills will continue to grow from the beginning of the season right through to the next without interruption. In previous years I have had good success keeping my swimmer’s general aerobic fitness up by doing a great deal of land work and running through the winter. Since it has proven to be highly successful we will continue with that style of training in the winter while maintain contact time in the water.

I feel an athlete’s body experiences less wear and tear when it is exposed to a greater combinations of training and movements. You will find you will make more consistent gains and your mind will be focused when you race thanks to increased variety in your training. While we currently offer swim sessions for triathletes, the plan is to move to a full service triathlon team in 2010 with potential to further offer track running and cross country.

Over the years few years several of my swimmers have performed extremely well at State level athletics in events from 100m sprints through to 15oom running and cross country.  In 2009 a few of my age group swimmers decided to have a go at triathlons and blitz the swim event and some even medalling in the overall standings.  It makes sense to expand on their potential and keep things in house while offering all customers a wider variety of life long fitness options.

On behalf of my team I look forward to you joining in our training activities and make sure you visit the water park one of your weekends too.

Thanks
Mark Andrews
